Expedia offers several ways for travelers to save money—both before and after their trips. The Expedia Price Guarantee allows a traveler to get a points credit for future travel if they find a better price than a current reservation. Expedia travel credits provide a points 'reimbursement' for certain travel expenses such as in-flight Wi-Fi. The goal with both projects was to simplify the process for customers and lead them through a quick process to submit their requests for credits with as little friction as possible. We built a user flow designed to reduce or eliminate ineligible submissions, which had been causing extra work for the customer care team and unnecessary frustration for travelers. After launching the new process there was a significant improvement in the approval rate of credit requests.
